CAHSS Award

Shortlisted trophy design for Edinburgh University aspiring colleague award.

Creating a narrative and embodying that within sculpture.

The base was made from dyed plaster, plant based glue and a little it of gold leaf using a technique called Scagliola. A technician at Edinburgh College of Art is one of the remaining specialists that still practices this technique and we wanted to showcase that. The “CAHSS 2024” was embedded into the material during its curing process. It gives a marble finish and feel, creating a sense of value with the winner.
The laminated plywood veneer is shaped to mimic the way plants grow intertwined. Competing with each other for the light whilst at the same time, nurturing those surrounding by sharing resources and stability.
